Key Dates and Timeline for The Texas Education Freedom Account Program

The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program continues to move toward its anticipated launch at the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year. The program is being overseen by the Texas Comptroller's office, with New York-based finance and technology company Odyssey hired to design and manage the system.

While final program rules aren't due until May 15, 2026, the Comptroller's office has released tentative timelines based on the project work plan agreed upon with Odyssey.

July 1, 2026: Funds deposited into digital accounts; payment platform expected to launch

What's Happening Now

The Comptroller's Office is currently working with Odyssey to finalize the list of approved private schools and design both the school registration process and the parent application portal. A marketing campaign is planned to begin this month to raise awareness about the program before the February application window opens. Odyssey has hired three subcontractors, Steel Digital Studios, Vianovo, and Outschool, to help spread awareness about the program throughout Texas.
